Useless Charity

वृथा वृष्टिः समुद्रेषु वृथा तृप्तस्य भोजनम् ।


वृथादानं समर्थस्य वृथादीपो दिवापि च ॥

ಸಮುದ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುರಿಯುವ ಮಳೆಯು, ಹೊಟ್ಟೆತುಂಬಿದವರಿಗೆ ಊಟವನ್ನು ಬಡಿಸುವುದು, ಸ್ಥಿತಿವಂತನಿಗೆ ದಾನವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವುದು ಹಾಗೂ ಹಗಲು ದೀಪವನ್ನು ಉರಿಸುವುದು, ಇವೆಲ್ಲ ವ್ಯರ್ಥವಾದ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳು. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗೆ ಮುನ್ನ ಯೊಚಿಸಿ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಬೇಕು.

It is of no use if it rains in  the sea. It is of no use if a well-fed person is given food. It is of no use to give charity to a rich man. It is of no use to light lamp when there is abundant sunlight.
 
So let us not give charity to gain fame by giving well to do people..
Let us help those who are in need...
